Bill Gates Sr. Speaking at WSU

The Foley Institute presents:
Bill Gates Snr. speaks about Taxing the Wealthiest
CUB Junior Ballroom
Noon - 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 5

The Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy & Public Service will be hosting a public presentation by Bill Gates Sr. on his rationale for sponsoring initiative 1098 from 12-1 pm in the CUB Junior Ballroom.

Initiative 1098 will appear on this November's ballot in Washington. This initiative would introduce a new state income tax for couples with incomes over $400,000 and individuals over $200,000, while reducing the state portion of the property tax and increasing the small business tax credit.

The state's Office of Financial Management (OFM) estimates that the net revenue brought into the state by this tax will be around $2 billion a year. The initiative dedicates this money towards priority education and health services. Supporters claim this reform will help fund vital investments needed in our public education system and basic health plan. Critics argue that it may deter business development in the state.
