Every Wednesday from now through October 27th local farmers will bring their bounty to the Old Post Office parking lot (one street up from Main St., by City Hall). Check out the fresh produce, herbs, plants, crafts, live music and more -while chatting it up with the locals.

Join Cougar fans downtown Friday night before the game for free live music, performances by the WSU marching band and WSU cheerleaders, chance to meet the athletes, and prizes! 

During the pep rally, Coach Paul Wulff will give a speech and athletes will sign posters for fans. And don't forget to snap a photo with Butch or with the "voice of the Cougs", Mayor Glen Johnson.  For the younger set, free games and inflatable fun for kids will be provided by WSU Athletic Marketing and Promotions. While there will be plenty of free activities throughout the night, First Down T-shirts  and a BBQ meal will be available for sale.

So start your Cougar Football Weekend early by cheering on the team with the rest of the city! It's fun and it's FREE. Go Cougs!

Free female-only rock climbing seminar

If you're female and you want to go to the free female-only rock climbing seminar, hosted by the Outdoor Recreation Center, then hop on over to the climbing wall in the Hollingberry Field House next Monday!

The seminar is free for those who have paid their UREC fees (which should be every full-time enrolled student). Learn the basics, or if you already know the basics, come to the seminar to advance your skills. Women That Rock usually have monthly trips, where women get to test their abilities and strength with the support of other women that rock! Check out the ORC website for more information.

Hey all! If you are looking for free furniture, a free kitten, or a free bicycle, you can probably spot a listing on the Pullman/Moscow Criagslist. You can find a ton of free things that people are willingly giving up! Some past items successfully picked up because of Craigslist: a excellent-condition futon, a guitar pick, printer cartridge, and a coffee table.

Check out a listing and e-mail the owner, by clicking the long e-mail address that ends with @cragslist.org, if you are interested in grabbing that from them. Establish a time/date that you can pick the items up. Then you want to establish where you're picking it up (usually free ads say: "wanter must pick it up," or "wanter must remove it out of my house"). Then BAM! You've got a new free object (or kitten)!

Some safety tips before you decide to pick up free stuff:

• Meet in public areas
• Meet in the afternoon or early evening
• Bring a friend
• Tell another friend where you are going
• Bring a cell phone
• If you feel uncomfortable, say an emergency came up and leave immediately

SEB Movie: The Book of Eli

I saw this movie over the summer and it was pretty good. It's one of many in a slew of post-apocalyptic movies that have debuted recently, taking place during a nuclear summer. Eli (Denzel Washington) is on a mission to save the sacred book, while Carnegie (Gary Oldman) is out to use it for power. Parts of Eli's journey are slow and long, but the movie picks up after he runs into a town. Plenty of action to keep you interested and it ends well. Check out the trailer:

New Green Bike Program!

The new Green Bikes outside of the Rec Center.

BIXI bikes launched on the WSU campus today, introducing a new and easy way to check-out Green Bikes. All students need is their Cougar card and a bike can be theirs for 24 hours.

Running late to class after a workout? You can check out a bike from the Rec, peddle to the CUB, check-in the bike and make it to class on time. Wanna get out of the house? Get some friends, grab some bikes and hit the Pullman-Moscow trail.

The bikes have a built-in chain for locking it up, a safety bell, 7 speeds and a basket-thing on the front.  They seem to be pretty durable and sturdy, and have great movement -hopefully making for a smooth, easy ride around town. Note: they are a little on heavy side.

I went through the motions myself to see how easy it was to get a bike and sure enough it was pretty simple. Here are the steps:

1. Swipe cougar card at kiosk (make sure the red magnetic strip is on top and facing right).
2. Print or display the access code.
3. Go to a bike and punch in the access code.
4. When the light turns green, grab your bike!

The new system allows students to check-out a bike at the kiosk 5:30am-10p.m. most days. Kiosks can be found at the CUB (outside of the ground level doors by Martin Stadium) and at the Rec Center. Students will need a helmet and a bike lock, both of which can be checked-out for free at either location. Long term bikes are available for check-out at the Outdoor Rec Center.

You can return the bike to the CUB or Rec Center location anytime. Just be sure the green light comes back on before you walk away -you may need to give the bike a good push into place for the light to come on.

Green bikes are a great way to have some fun and of course they're FREE!

You can register your team on Facebook. The winning team gets a grand prize and everyone gets free t-shirts (while supplies last!). There will also be a BBQ at the AGD chapter house after the tournament. Oh - and free music sponsored by KUGR! What an awesome FREE event. Because in the Palouse, everything is on the house!
